MARGA: Vision

A. Location Overview

The land is envisioned to be in someplace on the planet, however considerations such as accessibility and appropriate placement will be taken into account. Vermont is an ideal site because of the availability of undeveloped land and the communities that have developed in Vermont and truly characterize the landscape. The land could be purchased privately or built on state or nationally allocated land. Other possibilities include an educationally affiliated site or land collectively bought or donated by a community. Although permanent placement is ultimately the goal, the ability to have the stations be mobile and toured to different sites will be a posibility.

B. Site Layout

The sculptures will be in the form of thirteen stations comprised of one or several components and sculptural pieces. The entrance of the park will be set back from traffic and other buildings with enough seclusion and separation from daily life to give the viewer an opportunity for inter-and intra-spection. At the end of the stations is a central reflection/meditation space. Beyond the final gathering space, but still set apart from the Marga are several communal spaces, such as a museum of the creation of the Marga and a gallery of contributing artists? work and portfolios, a communal dining hall with large-volume cooking potential and possibly a space for overnight accommodations for out-of-state visitors. The space will be created and treated in a way that is respectful to the land, plants and animals that dwell there. The land surrounding the Marga will provide an opportunity for ecological stewardship and education and will allow viewers to connect to the outdoors. After the main buildings have been constructed or renovated to suit the needs of the project, the land could be put in a trust for long-term protection.
